GCMC Mission The Graduate Career Management Center is an educational department dedicated to providing Zicklin graduate students and alumni with the tools and resources necessary to successfully manage their careers while building relationships between employers and the Baruch community to help develop talent pipelines. Fred Burke — Director Fred comes to the Zicklin School of Business with over 15 years of experience in higher education career services. For the last six years, he was the Executive Director of the Career Center at Hofstra University. He finds great joy in helping students discover their career plans and implementing those plans into actual internships and jobs. By Lindsey Plewa-Schottland, Associate Director, Career Advising Being able to discuss current events with a potential employer has become an increasingly sought after skill.  Additionally, a daily regimen of reading (via app, daily emails, newspaper) can reveal opportunities to meet face-to-face with potential employers, also giving an edge on the job search. In a recent meeting with fellow career advisors, we discussed how there is a ton of useful information out there, but students we meet with often seem overwhelmed.  We started discussing the ways each of us source information to stay current on what’s happening in the world and up-to-date on employment trends.  What we found was that each of us has a different approach, but each approach works. A New Director at the GCMC

  Fred Burke (Director, Graduate Career Management Center) Fred Burke comes to the Zicklin School of Business with over 15 years of experience in higher-education career services. For the last six years, he was the Executive Director of the Career Center at Hofstra University. Prior to his role at Hofstra, Fred was the Associate Director of Career Development at Vassar College for almost seven years. Before his time at Vassar, Fred worked in human resources, where he managed the college recruitment efforts for Westfield Companies outside of Cleveland, Ohio. In his role, he traveled to 25 schools in 15 states to recruit talent for entry-level positions. Fred began his career in the Career Planning and Placement Office at Miami University in Oxford Ohio, where he worked as an assistant director and career counselor.
