Student Perspectives: Interning as a Business Development Analyst
Victoria Lilienthal (MS Business Analytics, Data Analytics) shared with the GCMC about her previous experience interning in Business Development.
My experience at Heritage Outdoor Media was very rewarding, and I had the opportunity to work on many different projects. I was even encouraged to come up with my own projects and ideas to make the work more streamline and easier for my coworkers and to improve operations.
Heritage Outdoor Media is a small firm. I found the
internship through Handshake and thought it could be a great opportunity.
In the first semester working with Heritage, they gave me
many different projects to work on. I could expect a new challenging task every
week which led to my work in my last semester where my manager had much higher
expectations on me in terms on finding my own ways on how to help automate
processes for the company.
I worked on many projects around data, which opened opportunities
for me to put my academic knowledge into practice to help the company grow. I
learned a great deal about my limitations and areas that needed improvement,
but I also learned how to use my academics in real world scenarios and how much
I truly learned during my education at Baruch College.
I was able to come up with projects that would save hours of
work for my manager and save thousands of dollars for the company by automating
processes of data collection, lease extraction, billboard placements and
organizing and cleaning their data sets. I was also able to join different
events and meetings with clients to get a wider understanding of the business
and its affiliations.
It was very rewarding to be included and work with the team at
Heritage Outdoor Media, to be able to go to the office when most people still
worked remote and classes are from home, and to be part of something bigger.
