Shubham Jadhao’s Success Story: After going to the GCMC consistently, he successfully achieved his career goals in Real Estate.
MS Real Estate ‘25 student, Shubham Jadhao, shares how taking advantage of the Graduate Career Management Center’s services and resources helped him navigate his career in Real Estate.
“I’ve learned that you have to keep knocking on every door—because all it takes is one opportunity to get in. Never stop knocking."
~ Based on advice from one of Shubham’s professors
Describe the ways you worked with the GCMC to reach your career goals (e.g. resume review, mock interviews, networking, etc.). I have actively worked with the GCMC to stay on track with my career goals. From resume reviews to LinkedIn updates, their guidance has played a key role in shaping my professional profile. Regular resume feedback sessions helped me tailor my applications effectively, which directly contributed to securing two internships and an on-campus job. Additionally, GCMC supported me in structuring compelling cover letters and refining my LinkedIn profile to reflect my evolving skills and interests. Their consistent support has been instrumental in building my confidence and presence in the real estate job market. What did you find the most helpful when working with the GCMC? Why was this helpful? The most helpful aspect of working with the GCMC was the personalized feedback on my resume and cover letters. Their ability to tailor suggestions to specific roles and industries made a significant difference in how I positioned myself as a candidate. This guidance not only helped me better articulate my experiences but also made my applications more competitive. Their support gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities aligned with my goals.
What Real Estate resources — on or off campus — have you found most useful? One of the most impactful resources in my real estate journey has been a combination of hands-on experience, structured learning, and meaningful connections with professionals in the industry. My first breakthrough came when I landed an internship with Silverstein Properties. It was my first real estate internship in New York City and my first time experiencing the industry up close. I had the opportunity to contribute to a redevelopment proposal focused on converting an office building into a mixed-use asset with residential and retail components. That experience gave me insight into the development process and allowed me to work alongside professionals from various teams including development, design, marketing, and asset management. It was the moment I realized how much I enjoyed working in real estate, and it set the tone for everything I’ve pursued since.
In addition to professional experiences, networking has played a major role in helping me navigate the industry. I’ve made it a point to connect with professionals across different sectors of real estate—listening to their stories, learning from their challenges, and gaining perspective on how to build a successful career. These conversations have not only offered guidance but also opened doors to opportunities I may not have discovered otherwise.
Later, I came across Project Destined on LinkedIn. After researching the program, I saw it as an incredible opportunity to gain formal training while applying what I learned in real-world scenarios. The Commercial Real Estate Fundamentals program has helped me develop technical skills in underwriting, market analysis, and deal-structuring—all with an emphasis on impact and inclusion. The experience has been both inspiring and empowering, allowing me to grow alongside a community of like-minded peers and mentors. What advice would you give to students looking for an internship/job?
My advice to students looking for an internship or job is to start early, stay consistent, and take full advantage of the resources available, especially the GCMC. Tailor your resume and cover letters for each opportunity, keep your LinkedIn profile updated, and do as much networking as possible. Reach out to alumni, attend industry events, and don’t hesitate to set up informational interviews; many opportunities come from connections rather than just applications. Most importantly, be open to feedback and stay persistent—even small improvements can make a big difference in landing the right opportunity. Final Remarks I would like to take a moment to thank Lindsey for her incredible support as a career coach. Her guidance, encouragement, and professional advice have played a key role in shaping my career journey in the real estate industry. Whether it was refining my resume, strategizing my job search, or preparing for interviews, Lindsey’s insights have been invaluable every step of the way.
